What is the DREAMER Study?

The Defining stress REsilience And Mindfulness Effects in Rheumatoid arthritis (DREAMER) study aims to find out how stress, stress resilience, and a mindfulness program impact symptoms and inflammation among people with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The study is assessing the feasibility and acceptability of a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course for improving disease outcomes in RA.

Who can participate?

This study is for adults living with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

What does participation involve?

All participants will complete two in-person study visits at the UCSF Osher Center (1545 Divisadero Street, San Francisco) roughly 2-3 months apart. Visits will last up to 90 minutes and include a brief joint exam, blood draw, and online surveys. Half of the participants in the study will be enrolled in an 8-week online mindfulness course held over Zoom, which will be determined by random assignment following the first study visit. Participants who are enrolled in the mindfulness course will complete brief weekly surveys and a 60-minute Zoom focus group once the course is over.
